On a cold afternoon which saw even hail showers, Brook 2nd XI with only 9 players were asked to field first by Bramley which seemed an odd decision at the time.
With a short boundary to the pavilion to protect and Oscar Rhodes patrolling the vast open spaces towards the D&P, the bowlers, led by Pat Seranga and Simon Bennison kept the Bramley batters in check and claimedt a few early wickets. A wonderful full length, diving catch by John Hamilton gave the skipper, Jim Macaulay, his first wicket. John also bowled with success and Oscar Rhodes produced the ball of the day to hit the stumps in an impressive spell.
With 4 an over required after a delicious tea, Jim Macaulay and John Hamilton set about their business with determination and good shot selection to punish the bad ball (several times for 6 into the tennis court!) At 20 overs, the score was 80 for nought and victory there for the taking. Jim and John bated through and victory was indeed secured before the showers started again.
A great team performance built on a tight fielding effort which always made the total attainable.
